Happy Monday, all! Hope you had a great weekend.
I wanted to rewind to a few days ago whenever we had our 2nd annual Be True To You BODYPEACE High School Workshop! I can’t believe it’s already been one year since last year’s first one which was truly amazing & we even caught the attention of our local News channel to come help spread the word!
With the high school being my alma mater, the support is through the roof when it comes to making this BODYPEACE workshop a yearly thing.
We start the day with a “be true to you” chat where I share my story of restriction, eating disorders, over-exercising, negative body image, & ultimately leading to my journey to BODYpeace.
I then ask the ladies & teachers to write letters to their bodies stating “Dear Body, I’m sorry for… & Dear Body, I’m thankful for…”
Now, I put myself back in high school & think how terrified I would be to get up in front of a room full of 70 + of my peers & share my vulnerability BUT these girls are so courageous & almost ALL of the students shared their letters!
I give a hug to each one of them after they are done & let them know how they are truly changing the world with what they are doing.
Here is the video from last year so you can see how truly moving this experience is.
After the energy is so high in the room from everyone being so open & honest – we move right into a fun workout!
This year I had them do some stations with partners & then finish with some signature power plate moves.
Station 1: Partner Plank High-Fives (alternating)
Station 2:
Station 3: Bear Walks down & Crab Walks back
Station 4: Hamstring Curls With Power Plates (aka paper plates)
At the end, signature Kasey screaming her head off picture.
As well as the signature NH chant!
After the workout, we head back to a cooking demo & refuel with one of my favorite Chia Jam recipes! (one of the first recipes I ever made on the blog).
We used strawberries, blueberries, honey, & chia seeds to blend up and serve on chocolate rice cakes. So good!
I also chat to the girls about the importance of fueling our bodies with ENOUGH food and not to restrict them like I once did. I honestly saw some eyes fill up with tears when I talked about this which makes me realize that this IS something that young girls struggle with, just as I did. My hope is that with more awareness & education on how much our bodies truly need, these restrictions & struggles can stop.
These girls are so open & amazing – make sure to follow them at @NH_GIRLPOWER on Twitter & let them know how inspiring they truly are!
Thanks to some of my friends, I’m able to giveaway some fun prizes!
A lot of these you’ll be seeing at GLOW RETREAT this summer as well!
Gosh, I just adore these students!! xo
Even two my girls from last years workshop , Hannah & Ciara, (who now have finished their first year of college – crazy!) came back to visit.
Not only are the students rock stars, but the teachers who help this whole day be what it is!
I can’t wait to do this again next year! Even though I’m moving, I promised everyone I’d be back & hopefully be able to bring my girl Heather with me! ;]
One of our goals is to travel to other schools or facilities to do this – if you know of someone, a school, or a university who could benefit from this workshop, please contact us! Kasey@Powercakes.net
Through BODYpeace, you are guided through 30 days of creating a new relationship with yourself, your body, and food. You’re led through 15 days with Heather to start off to really work on your relationship with yourself. Then I finish out the 15 days with 15 recipes to guide you through your relationship with food, inspired by “fear foods” and how food is fuel – not to be restricted.
I can’t thank all of these students & teachers enough!
Have an amazing Monday & be true to you,
xo Kasey
