Hey everyone! With so much information & experiences to share with you from Hawaii – I hope you don’t mind me splitting up each recap! For part two I wanted to share with you the second half of our first day of the Summit.

Shortly after the taste testing & lunch, we headed over to a courtyard where we met Hawaiian Pro Athletes & winner of the cutest couple ever award, Tim Marr & Mariane Uehara.

Mariane shares what inspires her most for training, “I like to think that triathlon is inspired by the three essential natural elements – water (swimming), air (riding), and earth (running). There are many similarities in training for an ironman and practicing sustainability. Both require commitment, dedication and an awareness that the small steps we take daily affect our overall performances and lives.”

Here is a video to Pro-Ironman athlete Tim Marr explaining the seen benefits of using Astaxanthan throughout his training over the years.

We asked them a bunch of questions about training & how they fuel their epic amount of workouts. Tim shared with us that the day before he had done a 60 mile bike ride, swam an hour in the pool, & ran a 5k. He stresses the importance of finding balance in life. Balance with training, food, family, & friends. He said that often times other athletes get so obsessed with training that they lose sight of what they are truly doing it for. I agreed with him & said that can easily happen with a lot of people regardless of what they are doing.

So again, balance! Not always easy to get but so worth figuring out for yourself.

It’s easy to see that these two truly are passionate about what they do but also live life to the fullest and they don’t let the small things phase them. They both are super easy going and totally have that “Hawaiian” laid back relaxed attitude.

Although it looks like Mariane is totally saying “aloha” in this picture, she is actually showing us proper form for running. Recently, Mariane did an Ironman which is and her marathon split time was a 3:20!! Isn’t that amazing? And that’s the last part of the 3 events that she does.

You can see all of her finishing race times on this page of her website. So inspiring!

She said it was important to not stand perfectly straight & to have a slight lean forward in your run.

Then we asked her to run across the grass so we could see her beautiful form.

Tim then showed us some of his warm up techniques & stressed how important it is to properly warm-up to reduce risk of injury.

After the work out demo we were on our way to the actual Farm where Spirulina & Astaxanthan are grown!

Listening to Gerry, who started the company, talk about his story & the product, was so inspirational! You can totally see his passion come pouring through him when he’s talking about the company that he loves & works so hard at.

The location of the Farm

  • Situated on the bright, sunny Kona coast, our farm receives more sunlight than any other coastal location in the United States enabling Nutrex Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica to grow continuously for 12 months a year.

  • The ponds have been in operation since 1985.

What does that mean for you?  More nutrition! Spirulina Pacifica has evolved into a nutritionally superior strain after more than 25 years of continuous cultivation in the intense Hawaiian sun.

  • Nutrex Hawaii is the only microalgae farm located in a “BioSecure Zone” that prohibits the use of harmful pesticides and genetically modified organisms.

What does that mean for you? The products are safe & pure!

  • The Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica and BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin products are grown without using any harmful pesticides, herbicides and we do not generate land erosion or water pollution.
  • The products are grown with 100% potable drinking water.  This water is collected from the Big Island’s pristine aquifer.  After being natural filtered through lava rock, this water is as fresh as it gets.
  • To minimize water waste and return essential nutrients back into our growing ponds, the majority of the fresh water is recycled and returned to the pond for the next growing cycle.  This process contributes to providing the world’s most nutritious Spirulina.

Ocean Chill Drying™

  • Nutrex Hawaii’s patented Ocean Chill Drying™ system eliminates oxidation and damage to carotenoids, enzymes and other fragile nutrients that occur in standard drying methods.

What does that mean for you?  Nutritional content that you can rely on!  This patented system dries our Spirulina in just 3-7 seconds, relies on very cold deep ocean water to provide de-humidification and uses less than one percent oxygen to preserve the phytonutrients.  And because of our superior packaging, our Spirulina arrives to the consumer as fresh as the day it was harvested.

Environmental Responsibility & Sustainability

  • Nutrex Hawaii’s corporate philosophy is to leave the land and environment in better condition than when they started.

What does this mean for you?  You can feel good about purchasing products from a company that does everything possible to protect the environment.

How cool is this shot? This is Gerry showing us how the culture grows into bigger & bigger batches all before going into the large ponds you see in the pictures above.

Taking this tour really opened up my eyes to the whole process & how much time & effort goes into creating such a credible product. They care so much about how this product gets to you and where it comes from. It was very apparent the whole tour how passionate everyone is about helping others through the power of Spirulina & Astaxanthan.

After a day of learning & interacting with the product, it was time to relax & refuel!

We went to a beautiful place by the water where we all enjoyed apps, some wine (that basically put me to sleep instantly since I was bit tired from all of the traveling Winking smile), & some delicious fresh local food!

IMG_8405

Forgive my lighting, we were basically just lit by candlelight (which was awesome) but I used the best brightening techniques that I could on my iPhone. I ordered macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi which was served over glazed zucchini noodles. Seriously, give me anything macadamia nut and I’m a happy camper! I think it’s safe to say that I ingested my bodyweight in macadamia nuts throughout the trip #noshame

Dessert was a coconut milk Crème Brûlée with berries. It was delish & the hard sugar coating on top is probably my favorite part. Yum!

It’s safe to say that at the end of the day, I was exhausted! In such a good way though. I had literally got off a plane right into a day of learning & enjoyment. The hospitality by this company is so great & they really make you feel like part of the team!

Tomorrow will be a recap of our Snorkel Cruise (my first time snorkeling!) & some more fun Hawaiian moments!

Enjoy your day guys!

be true to you,

Red heart Kasey
