This lady is a Plant Power All-Star with a credible background on Plant Based eating.

We are so excited that Julieanna wanted to be a part of the #plantPOWER Challenge!

Today, she shares with us a little about facts of plant based Protein:

  • All amino acids available in plants
  • Plant-based superstars-beans, lentils, peas, nuts, soy products, quinoa, leafy greens.
  • Protein doesn’t equal flesh, it’s a macronutrient, available in all foods.

Julieanna also shares a Plant Based Food Guide Pyramid as well to help!

PBD-Food-Guide-Pyramid1

Questions or concerns about eating plant based? Here are Julieanna’s tips for getting started:

  • Thinking from the positive-”what do I get to try” instead of “what do I have to give up”

  1. Melissa says:

I would love to win this book to have a resource for learning more of the science and logic behind plant-based nutrition. I’ve been plant-based for about six months now and I KNOW that it works, but I’m still no expert on all of the facts behind it. I’d love to have this book as a way to better familiarize myself with those facts and as a way to be able to be more of a source of information for others who might be interested in plant-based living.

  2. megan says:

ibwould love to win this book as i am still learning the fundamentals of plant-based nutrition and at times it can be so overwhelming! the more information the better, and a resource that presents information in an easy-to-digest manner is always welcome!

  3. JAF says:

Am loving the A – Z theme it is so inspiring. I started a healthy cooking blog last year but it had fallen by the wayside as I was just making the same old thing. You inspired me not only to eat A LOT more plant based foods as well as some of your recipes (your homemade dressing is to die for) but also to start trying to make some new recipes of my own. 🙂

  4. Kattreena says:

I would love to win this book because I enjoy eating plant based for the most part, but I tend to get stuck on recipes or just knowing what to buy at the grocery store to make meals! I would also love To share some plant based recipes with my family to inspire them to eat healthier! I feel like this book would help me learn more about the benefits of a plant based diet as well as help my family learn about it and inspire them to eat healthier!

  5. Mandey says:

I would love to win this book because I can’t get enough of learning about the science of nutrition. The more resources I have, the more I understand what to eat to be healthy. Plain and simple!

  6. Alysha says:

I would love to win this book as I am currently going through to become a registered Dietitian like Julieanna and feel this would be an essential resource for me to have to help me better aid client’s that wish to start a plant based diet, are already following a plant based diet, or their health requires them to follow a plant based diet. Adopting a plant based diet is a upward trend I have seen over the years as more and more people have found it be to so healing. However, I know many friends and colleagues who are not very healthy about it, leaving out important proteins. This is where this book would come in handy to show them what to eat. I also would love this book for personal reason as I suffer from a large number of digestive ailments, undergoing surgery for some of it, and I think reading and having this book would help me change my diet to avoid future complications and to heal my gut.

  7. Mia says:

Oh my gosh, great giveaway!!! I lover her and her food philosophy! I am finishing up my dietetic internship to be an RD and find her very inspiring. It is very refreshing to see an RD that supports a plant based diet/ lifestyle. You don’t find that too often. :). I would love to win a copy of her book.

  8. […] over to Kasey’s blog for all of the details. This is one resource you don’t want to go without if you’re new […]

I would love to know how to fuel my body strictly based on plants (because fresh plants are usually the only healthy option at the dining places on campus!). I love that the guide is the complete idiot’s guide, because I feel like I really need to start at the beginner level! I think having this book would better help me share the healthy lifestyle with other here on campus 🙂

  14. Erica Heule says:

Hello! I’d LOVE to win this book for many reasons. I love reading about anything health-related. I’m slowly but surely, moving away from animal proteins, toward plant proteins. 15. Amy says:

I have Julieanna’s food guide pyramid on my computer as my wallpaper so it’s always there for easy reference. I’m still a newbie at plant-based eating and still doing my research so I’m checking out a lot of books from the library. Books on veganism, documentaries and tons of cookbooks. Julieanna’s book is one that the libraries do not have and I would love to have it for my reference at home. I think she’s great!

  16. Laura says:

I would love to win this book to use as a resource in plant-based eating. Since I went vegetarian 6 months ago, I have had a hard time getting enough iron which is a problem for me as I’ve struggled with anemia most of my life. I love learning about hte science behind different eating patterns and this book sounds fantastic!

  17. Devyn says:

I would love to get the opportunity to read Julieanna’s book! I have always had really intense stomach issues that’s spiraled out of control last year. I have been following Kasey’s blog for the past few months and it had helped me so much! I am still learning and making mistakes with my stomach which is frustrating but I am keeping positive and always trying new things! Kadeys blog has made it especially easy for me to transition to plant based and Julieanna’s book would be so helpful as well!

  28. Jessica says:

I have been on the transition to a 100% vegan diet since August 2012. While I have not been perfect with my eating, I continue to improve week by week, month by month. If it weren’t for all of the resources out there that discuss veganism I would not be where I am today. Every day I am researching new recipes, reading articles, watching documentaries, and finding inspiration from my fellow Veggie Heads on twitter and instagram 🙂 I would really love to win this book as it would be a great addition to my collection and help me further my education about plant based nutrition. By furthering my education I will better myself, get even closer to my goal of being 100% vegan, and it will help me explain a plant based diet to those that confront me (which happens often at school).

    Would love to read this!

  58. Savannah says:

I would love to win this plant-based nutrition book! I am an active, strength training 20 year old who has relied on protein powder and animal protein sources wayyy too much and I had to scale back on them in order to get healthy again. It wasn’t until I started reading this blog that I found different kinds of veggies and healthy fats that I could incorporate into my diet. Its helped me not only in my health but also my confidence with my body that food is FUEL. I bought my first raw protein powder (sunwarrior) and I am OBSESSED but I would love to know more about eating plant based. Food has probably been the biggest challenge because I am constantly told what I cannot eat, but the more research that I do, the more I am realizing that I can still eat what I want, I just have to make it healthier! So I keep reading books and doing research online to find out how to make myself healthier overall. Reading this book would no doubt help me!

  64. I am taking nutrition classes right now and would love to learn more of a plant-based perspective on the subject!

  65. April Pinkney says:

    Hi Kasey,

First of all thank you so much for everything you do. I remember back in October when you first started your plant based challenge and I thought you were crazy. However, I tried adding one meal a week that was all plant based.. Now 4 months later I am eating 80% plant based and my GI issues are so much better, and my half marathon training has also seen improvement. I can not believe how much more energy I have. My boyfriend absolutely hates most vegetables and I worry about his health in the future so much. This book would help me put facts behind the reasoning for the conversations we have as to why he should TRY vegetables. It would mean so much to me to be able to improve the love of my life’s health by bring able to better put my thoughts into words. Either way, I’m so thankful for the February challenge and all your recipes and inspiration. Please think of me when choosing.
    Thanks,
    April

I have been intriduged by the plant based diet for a long time, but like others, feel as though I don’t “know” enough. This book would be a great way for my to expland my own knowledge so I can better my diet, my body, and my foundation, before happily sharing with others as well. Thank you ladies!
