#IWILL Run4Kyle

Hey all! I hope you’re having a great Thursday.

It may seem hard to believe, but registration for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in May opened this past Tuesday, October 1. For those who don’t know, last year a family friend of mine, Kyle, tragically passed away while running in the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.

This day has truly changed a lot of peoples lives but we all know that Kyle would want us to continue to live life the way he would – to the fullest.


Kyle’s mom, Mary Beth, is one of my mom’s best friends & like a second mother to me. I grew up spending a lot of time at Mary Beth’s house & hanging out with Kyle & his brother Seth. The strength that his family & friends have shown over these last months has been inspirational & motivating.

The other day, my friend Megan created a group on Facebook for the campaign “Run4Kyle”. As I read about the movement & hit accept, I instantly knew that I had found my new goal.


Because the marathon it is such an overwhelmingly popular event here in Pittsburgh – Kyle’s friends & family wanted to make everyone aware in case they wanted to run in Kyle’s honor as so many of us are planning to do.

It is often said, "I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate his life than by completing the race he was so determined to run.”

The goal is to create awareness for a combined effort to fill out your bib name as "Run4Kyle". Even if you’re not in the Pittsburgh area and this story hits home with you, please consider honoring Run4Kyle in your city!


So truth be told, I am not a huge runner & you all know that. BUT I was itching for a new goal & this it.  Yesterday I hit my old school track & ran a few miles – they felt good! It was a beautiful day & I really enjoyed it.

I plan to share with you all how I’m doing in preparation for this & my friends at Under Armour are being so supportive as always & I appreciate them sponsoring my goal.

I’m one out of many people making this their new goal so GOOD LUCK to everyone as we all prepare to honor our friend, Kyle!

  1. I love you, girl.

    I ran my first half marathon in honor of my friend’s son, Miles, who was a track star and died tragically in a car accident. It tore my world up. I am no runner…..in any way. Today I ran, not even a half mile with a client for her first time in months. Perhaps it was for this moment.

    I will run with you. If I can’t run in Pittsburg, I will run another race that day or virtually.

  2. Oh my gosh!! I love the idea of this and soooo want to do it. I wonder if I can get to Pittsburgh in May and run it with you?? That would be so awesome! Either way, I will run for him that day.

    I’m running the Pittsburgh half too! This will be my third. It’s so great you can honor your friend by doing something he loved. My biggest tip is to test out a ton of different fuels during training to see what works the best for you. I tried different types of candy, honey stingers, shot blocks, and eventually realized I can’t chew and run at the same time and settled on gels 🙂 Good luck and I can’t wait to hear about your training!

    I live in Pittsburgh and actually registered for the half marathon the other day. It will be my first half marathon too. Ill have to check it out and see if I can change my bib. It’s amazing your doing the run for him.

    I ran the Pittsburgh Half Marathon last year and remember running that last curve, finish line in the not so far distance, and seeing the paramedics on the side assisting a male runner my age. It was jarring and stopped me in my tracks, I said a prayer and finished but couldn’t get him out of my head. Just the other day I spoke to a friend who ran the full and we vowed we’d run it again this year, in honor of Kyle.

  11. You’re doing such an amazing thing. I remember hearing about Kyle last year when I ran the Pittsburgh Half.

    This is a great race to run in memory of a person. Everyone is so supportive and it’s just a really fun race. I’m in Pittsburgh, too, if you need a running buddy let me know!
