1) Tell me about you! What’s your story.

I am a senior Exercise Science student/recent Alumni at Slippery Rock University. I love just about any outdoor activity that I can participate in. A few of my favorite hobbies include fishing, swimming, hunting, waterskiing, playing lacrosse, reading, and skeet and trap shooting. I love the feeling of completing a goal or achievement and I like finding new activities to conquer, especially with friends or family members alongside me.

2) What got you into athletics?

I played sports all through high school and my first year of college. I always thought playing a sport was the normal thing that every high school kid did. I liked the camaraderie that comes along with being on a team. I will always have a unique bond with the girls on my lacrosse team.

3) What got you into triathlons?

My sophomore year in college was the first time in quite a few years that I was not part of a sports team. I wasn’t forced to run or practice. I felt satisfied with each workout I would perform because I could choose what I actually wanted to do. First, I decided I wanted to run a half marathon. Once I had concurred the half-marathon I wanted to add some versatility into my training. I enjoyed running, but it wasn’t all I wanted to do. The triathlon club was starting up on campus and so I figured I would give it a try!

4) What is your favorite way to train?

I like to train with a buddy. I’m a fairly competitive person and I don’t like to let others beat me. Also, sometimes I just need a few words of motivation to keep me going.

5) Any exercise tips for a newbie triathlete looking to start training?

Try to stick with a schedule but don’t be afraid to mix it up a little bit.

6) What was your reaction when VEGA & Kasey wanted to help out the club with product?

I was extremely excited when I found out about Kasey and VEGA. Being a college student, it is difficult to buy products or a fridge full of groceries for training. VEGA and Kasey provided me with a healthy and budget friendly option.

7) What was your initial thought of the product line and features?

I was impressed by the natural ingredients and the honest advertising of the product. I dug a little deeper into the company by checking out the website. I was able to find a great deal of useful information about the VEGA Sport line.

8) What was your favorite product and why?

My favorite product was the sugar-free accelerator. I would typically fit my workout in between my classes or at the end of my day so I would be exhausted by this point. The accelerator gave me additional energy to complete my workout successfully.

9) What do you think is an important thing to have for training, especially while being in college.

Fresh food! I know that the processed options in the store are typically cheaper and can taste pretty good, but they normally do not have the same nutritional benefits fresh food has. Cooking can take time and I know in college time is precious, but the nutritional benefits from fresh unprocessed foods greatly impacts an individual’s health.

10) What is a tip for a reader on how to balance college life and training?

Don’t wait until the last minute to fit in a workout. Sometimes I would plan on doing my workout at night and then when another activity would come up I would have to pick between the workout or my friends/activity. If you do your workout early in the day, your evening is open to additional plans.

11) What does #fuelyourbetter mean to you?

Without a balanced diet my body can’t perform at its peak. #fuelyourbetter is a reminder and promise to myself in which I will attempt to provide my body with the necessary and appropriate fuel to perform successfully.

12) What does #betruetoyou mean to you?

I think of #betruetoyou as a personal checks and balance system. It reminds me that everything I am doing is for my own body.

Keep up your awesome work, Shannon! So happy that VEGA & myself could help you along your journey!

Be true to you,

xo Kasey
